Women Rise Up!

1942_JHowardMiller_we_can_do_itAt the recent Cedars Opportunity Fair, almost thirty women signed up to learn more about participating in one or more of the possible new groups for Cedars women! There are two basic types of groups that could be formed, and with so much general interest, it’s likely multiple groups will form. There are friendships to be made and other rewards with participation in either type.

One type is the affinity group, which is based on a specific area of interest such as gourmet cooking or old movies or wine tasting or writing your life story, etc. The other type is the covenant group, which provides opportunities to develop deeper understanding of life and of ourselves as well as deeper relationships. This is done through topics of interest members develop themselves or use from the UU small group ministry website (www.smallgroupministry.net).

Start thinking about what you would like in a women’s group and look for an announcement of the introductory meetings in the September Beacons. An organizing team of Mary Clear-Padilla, Sally Wilson, Leslie Marshall, and Becky Walsh are working on plans to assist Cedars women to design the kind of groups they want to join. To this end, they will hold an exploratory meeting on September 16th after the Sunday service at The Island School to explore possibilities and assist in getting groups started. Childcare will be provided. To add your name to the list of interested Cedars women, please fill out our women’s group sign-up form.
