Coffee and Tea Sales Raise Funds for Cedars

Cedars will be selling Grounds For Change coffee and tea on the Second Sunday of each month during the Coffee Hour after the service.  If you buy coffee or tea regularly, or even occasionally, we hope you will consider supporting Cedars by purchasing your coffee and tea at church.  We are selling 12 oz. bags of either whole bean or ground coffee for $10.00 a bag, of which Cedars keeps $3.50.  You can also buy boxes of 20 tea bags of black, green, or herbal tea for $5.00 per box, of which Cedars keeps $1.25.  You can order and pay for your coffee with cash or a check (sorry, no credit cards) on the second Sunday of the month and pick up your order on the third Sunday of the month.  If you can’t be in church one of those Sundays, please contact Tracy Dickerson to make special arrangements.

Grounds for Change sells certified Fair Trade and organic, shade grown coffee.  Grounds for Change is also certified Carbon Free by www.carbonfund.org, a group that offsets carbon emissions through reforestation programs.  They are also a member of 1% For the Planet and donate 1% of their total sales to non-profit environmental organizations.  Their dark roast is provided by Café Femenino, a non-profit women’s coffee farmer collective of some 5,000 women across Latin America.  As a local Poulsbo business trying to do well by doing good, they fit David Korten’s model of the type of responsible local business we should be supporting to create a vibrant local economy.  They have frequently donated free coffee to our special events.  And if you need still more reasons than all of the above: it’s really good coffee that is roasted to order just a few days before you receive it.  If you were at the June 14th coffee tasting, you know just how good this coffee is!

There are four types of coffee, all available as either whole bean or ground:

bullet

Bolivia (medium roast)

bullet

Agate Pass (medium-dark roast)

About Our Coffee

Attention to the social, environmental and financial impacts of conducting business forms the foundation of Grounds for Change.  Out of this concern grows premium quality, great service and passion for our trade.  The result is a truly exceptional cup of coffee. Every single bean we roast is Fair Trade Certified™, Organic Certified, CarbonFree® Certified, and Shade Grown, which means the possibility of a real livelihood for coffee growers, a breath of fresh air for the planet, zero net carbon emissions from “crop to cup” and healthy forests for migratory songbirds.

About Us

Grounds for Change is passionate about operating as a green business and we recently received Kitsap County's award for Outstanding Achievement in Sustainability.  We are a member of 1% for the Planet and donate well over 1% of our total sales to various environmental organizations.  This year, our donations helped to support a local elementary school's environmental stewardship program, advocate for migratory songbirds impacted by coffee cultivation, restore salmon habitat, and support a collective of women coffee producers and their families in Peru and Mexico.  We recycle all of our burlap coffee bags by donating them to local organic farmers to be used as weed barriers and erosion control.  All of the chaff by-product of the roasting process goes to local farmers for use as fertilizer on their organic farms.  The spent coffee grounds produced by our brewers go to local blueberry farms to be used as compost.  We offset 100% of our carbon dioxide emissions and purchase only Green Power.  To find out more about what we're doing at our roastery, visit: www.groundsforchange.com.

By choosing to use Grounds for Change coffee as your fundraiser, you directly support the fair trade, organic and shade grown movements in coffee-producing countries across the globe.

The fundraiser consists of 12 ounce bags of four coffees: Bolivia (Medium Roast), Agate Pass Blend (Med-Dark Roast), Café Femenino Peru (Dark Roast) and Decaf First Light Blend (Med-Dark Roast Decaf) in whole bean or ground.

We also offer a delicious selection of Choice Fair Trade Organic Teas.  The teas available are Earl Grey with Lavender Blossoms, Celtic Breakfast, Dragon Well Green, Moroccan Mint Green, Chamomile Spearmint (herbal) and Northwest Blackberry (herbal).  The teas come in boxes of 20 individually packaged tea bags.
