Teams, Groups, Committees, & Activities

These groups are responsible for accomplishing much of the work of the Church, from planning the Religious Education Program, to cleaning up after services.  All members are encouraged to get involved in a committee.  This will not only help us with the ongoing work of the Church and help to accomplish our goals; it's also a great way to meet and get to know other members.

Children's Religious Education

The Children's Religious Education Committee organizes RE programs for the children and youth of the Church.  Various curricula themes have been offered over the past several years, including UU Principles, world religions, Judeo-Christian heritage, humanist studies, peace and social justice, and earth-centered religions. To find out more about this committee, or how you can help, please e-mail the Director of Religious Education (DRE).
Communications The Communication Committee disseminates news of the Church to the congregation and the larger community.  It publishes a monthly Newsletter and prepares news releases and  announcements regarding Church activities.  The committee also publishes and maintains this Website.  To find out more about this committee, or how you can help, please e-mail the Communications Chair.

Finance

The Finance Committee oversees the Church's finances and is charged with the fiscal health of the Church.  It works in conjunction with the Treasurer of the Board and the Church's bookkeepers.  To find out more about this committee, or how you can help, please e-mail the Finance Chair.

Green Sanctuary The Green Sanctuary Committee is committed to making Cedars a model of sustainability as a church, as well as educating the congregation and community about a sustainable lifestyle.  It sponsors speakers, and conducts workshops and Study Circles to this end,  For more information about how you can help, contact Green Sanctuary Co-Chairs.
Membership The Membership Committee strives to provide a friendly, warm and welcoming atmosphere in the Church so that visitors will wish to return and members and friends will wish to remain.  Keepers of the Membership Book, the committee works closely with the minister in organizing new member classes, and formally recognizes new members at In-gatherings.  To find out more about this committee, or how you can help, please e-mail the Membership Chair.
Music The purpose of the Music Committee is to promote, advocate, nurture and sustain music programs at Cedars.  A key part of our responsibility is to provide direct support to the Music Director, and act in her behalf in her absence, and to enable better coordination and communication of music activities within our church community.  The choir, which rehearses at 7:30 every Wednesday night, is a major visible part of the committee's responsibility.  If you would like to help on the committee or sing in the choir, please contact the Music Committee Chair or the Music Director.
Nominating The Nominating Committee is charged with recruiting the Church's Leadership.  The Committee finds members who are willing to serve on the Board of Trustees, and to fill the roles the officers and committee chairs of the Church.  The slate is presented to the Church for a vote at its annual business meeting in the Spring.  If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact the Nominating Committee Chair.
Pastoral Care The members of the Pastoral Care Committee seek to respond with compassion and respect to the confidential pastoral needs of the members of our religious community.  Volunteers are provided with formal training and ongoing education.  Committee members offer caring resources in addition to those of our minister.  They are non-professionals who will keep confidences and walk beside others through life's ups and downs.  For more information, contact the Pastoral Care Chair.
Program Council The Program Council is made up of the chairs of committees involved in program activities of the church.  The goal of the council is to coordinate the many program activities of the Church.  The committees currently on the Program Council are Adult Programs, Communications, Green Sanctuary, Membership, Social Action, and Worship.  The Program Council is chaired by the Vice President of the Board of Trustees.
Social Action The Social Action Committee explores various socially conscious events in our community and encourages members to participate in those appropriate to our UU Principles.  Examples include the annual Crop Walk and Earth Day events.  To find out more about this committee, or how you can help, please e-mail the Social Action Chair.
Stewardship

This year’s Stewardship campaign is one of the most critical campaigns we have ever embarked upon. With an exciting ministerial search well underway, we all have so much to look forward to as a spiritual community.  But the fundamental financial goals to hire a top-notch minister can only be met with the helping hands and hearts of each one of us.  To find out more about this committee, or how you can help, please e-mail the Stewardship Chair.

Welcoming Congregation The Welcoming Congregation Committee continues the work that culminated with the congregation’s declaration that it is a Welcoming Congregation, welcoming to all, especially to those who are bisexual, gay, lesbian or transgender (BGLT).  The Committee supports BGLT activities in the Church and the wider community, and presents an annual program to the Church.  To get involved in the committee, or for more information, please e-mail the Welcoming Congregation Chair.
Worship The Worship Committee provides the  "lay-led" services when the minister is not in the pulpit, and assists the minister in the other services.  It coordinates with Programs and Children's Religious Education to include children as appropriate in intergenerational services for special celebrations and events throughout the year.  If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact the Worship Chair.
Youth Group The Youth Group is made up of older members of the Children's RE program.  They meet twice a month during the Sunday Service, and plan monthly Fun Outings.  To find out more about this committee, or how you can help, please e-mail the Youth Advisor.

Men's Group The Cedars UU Church Men's Group meet on the first and third Mondays of the month in the evening.  If you are interested in joining this group, contact Herb Hethcote.
