Cedars Unitarian Universalist Church

A Welcoming Congregation

Meet the Membership Committee

It's an exciting time for Unitarian Universalism.  With the national campaign, membership is taking center stage.  The Membership Committee at Cedars is here to take on the challenge of welcoming new members as well as meeting the needs of current members.  Our membership committee includes Sally Wilson as Neighborhood Team Coordinator, Sheryl Hamm as Connections Coordinator, Rod Kempkes as our board representative and Arlene Wade as Membership Chair.  If you are interested in welcoming new members and nurturing the fellowship of current members, we would love to have you join our team.  The Membership Committee is looking for committee members that will coordinate the welcome process and coordinate the path to membership.  We also need volunteers to help welcome visitors on Sundays.

Please feel free to stop by the Membership Table to find out more.

Orientation Planned

An Orientation for perspective members to learn about Cedars UU Church and Unitarian Universalism will take place on Sunday May 4th, following the Sunday service.  We will meet from 11:45 am to 1:15 pm in the Sterling Building, 600 Winslow Way East, Bainbridge Island.  A light lunch will be served.  If you are interested in attending, please contact Arlene Wade.  Childcare is available on request.

Dinner Connection

The Membership Committee has initiated a series of small group dinners to introduce new members and friends who have indicated an interest in Cedars, to current members, as well as to draw in members and friends who have been less active.  This is a social activity toward the beginning of the “path to membership”.  We also want people who are already involved in the church in some way, to know that they are valued and appreciated.

Initially, the dinners are being held once a month at the home of Wil and Sheryl Hamm on Hidden Cove.  Attendees bring ingredients and drinks, and get involved in making the dinner.  In the future we may have more than one event a month.  The additional events will be hosted by other members, and may have a different theme, such as a potluck, brunch, afternoon tea, or a dinner which includes children.

The first Dinner Connection, a pasta-making party, was held in February.  We started out with antipasti and a big pot of soup to keep us going while we made pasta with a hand crank machine and a food processor.  We had home-made marinara and seafood sauces, accompanied by delicious sides, salads, and desserts. The March culinary focus was crepes.  We made entrée and dessert crepes with choices of fillings and sides.  It was delicious.  We had a lot of fun, learned something new, and got to know each other a little better.

The dinners are for 12 to 14 adults.  Invitations are issued by the Membership Committee.  We try to include new people, seasoned members and friends, a mix of ages, couples and singles.   Child care can be arranged.

Please contact Sheryl Hamm at  if you would like to attend or host one of the dinners.
