Music Notes Cedars is fortunate to have a splendid Music Director in Chris Smellow, an enthusiastic choir, an active Music Committee, and numerous talented musicians to offer special music in our services.
Choir welcomes new members. Seven new members have joined the choir since September. All are welcome and add your voice. Our rehearsals are Wednesday nights at 7:30 pm in the Church Office at 571 Erickson Avenue, Bainbridge Island (Katz Building). Participation in the choir is a service to the congregation, and can be a profound spiritual practice.
Music as a centering moment. Working together with the Worship Committee, we have experimented with having the piano on the main floor of Webster Hall and moving the Prelude into the service itself so that people can center themselves prior to entering into worship.
Gifts of pianos. We are pleased that we have been given two pianos which have been recently tuned (thank you Diana Peters and Jane Martin!). The upright, which is stored on the stage of Webster Hall, has been brought into top condition thanks to a generous gift by Diana. In these times of tight budgets, this gift is especially appreciated. We are fortunate to have the spinet now in place in our Church Office for the choir rehearsals.
Holiday Music. In addition to new music, the choir also presented some of the music prepared a year earlier for the snowed-out Christmas Eve service of 2008.
Expanded music program. We are inviting guest musicians to offer special music for a number of services. We are looking forward to enriching our Sunday services with a vibrant program of music throughout the year.
Music Committee contributors: Chris Smellow, Sheryl Hamm, Fran Korten, Bob Meredith, Alan Miller, Robert Mohr.
