Wow - thanks for the recognition! What a surprise to find myself here. And to Richard - your digital photo essay is a great contribution. I'm wondering if there could be an online photo album of more, many of your photos of Cedars' events that would be accessed via a link from the home page. If anything gives website visitors a sense of our congregation it's an album of how we are in community with each other. Maybe this could be under the "community life" link? I bet we could recruit you as the official community life photographer!

Jaco
Well done. This event had a big impact on me as well. In the end I think it fits more with the school shootings and other crazy killing events perpetrated by nut jobs, like the Norwegian guy who killed 77. To me the key strategy to reduce killing is to change public policy and leadership. We need gun control and we need intelligent political leadership respectful of life. Like you I am not a pacifist (military action saved lives in Bosnia, Kosovo and Libya, or blocked greater evils in WWII and the civil war).
Quakers and strict pacifists are wonderful and honorable. We need as well a religious leadership that understands the necessity of force in some circumstances, but pushes to reduce killing by opposing civilian bombing, favoring wining hearts and minds over "search and destroy" and supports humane code of conduct training, treatment and education for our soldiers.

So well written Jaco. I too am shaken by the havoc guns have spread this past week. I try to keep it out of my thoughts because it causes such pain in my heart.
This should appear in a wider read publication: the Review, Kitsap Sun, Seattle Times?

Hi Paula,

Thanks for writing and welcome to Cedars. We do have a bit of our history on the About Us page of our website. I'd be interested to hear what you think about the content on that page. Do you think it answers the questions that Candee asks? I think we can do better, but I'm not sure yet how.

And thanks for the example of your women's organization. It's very well put.

Dear Candee,

We have not met you yet. My 12 year old daughter and I attended service Feb 5 because we plan on moving to Bainbridge in summer. Are the stories that answer these questions somewhere on the Cedars site? We would love to know them.
Who laid the groundwork for us to be able to be here today and worship the way we want? How did our church community get created? What were the stories of the people who began Cedars? This church has a fun beginning story, do you know it?

Also,You might enjoy this list of reasons that I started for a woman's organization on why we tell our stories. I am sure it can be added to.

      Why We Tell Our Stories
To connect to the larger story
To share how we arrived at our solutions
To discover magic
To understand the depth of our dramas
To have witness to our experience and existence
To gain inspiration and hope
To express our individuality
To realize common ground
To grow and change with encouragement
.....Because we forget

Thank you, Candee. As you wove the story of our beginnings, I could imagine all the threads warping and wefting....then, your ending, or is it a beginning?...it brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful opportunity you and your mother had to connect. Blessings.
