Social Action Committee

Our Mission:

“The Social Action Committee believes that a commitment to social justice is a natural extension of both our fellowship's mission statement and the Unitarian Universalist principles.  We further believe that integrated and coordinated social action is integral to the life and growth of our fellowship.  Our mission, therefore, is to identify and facilitate involvement in social action projects to which we can make a positive and substantive contribution.”

April Special Collection

In honor of Earth Day, this month’s special collection on April 27th will benefit the West Sound Conservation Council (WSSC).  WSSC is a coalition of conservation groups in the West Sound, dedicated to bringing the voices of environmental responsibility to the public debate.  Some of it’s members include Kitsap and Bainbridge Conservation Voters, the Kitsap Audubon Society, the Hood Canal Environmental Council, and Kitsap Trees.  They meet regularly with legislators and public officials in a coordinated way for maximum effectiveness.  Donations are tax-deductible.  For more information, you can visit www.westsoundconservation.org.

Social Action Opportunities

Super Suppers:  Do you want to help our Social Action team but don’t have much time?  Are you a good cook looking for an excuse to make brownies?  The Super Suppers at Helpline House needs your help!  We are teaming up with Congregation Kol Shalom to put on a dinner for all comers at Helpline House on the last Tuesday of every month.  We are responsible for salad, dessert, and bread.  If you can bring one of those items, help host the dinner with a member of the Social Action Committee, or simply want more information about these dinners, please contact our new coordinator, Helen Nissani.

Our Committee includes:
Lara Turney, Chair
Julie Ann Dakin
Carol Ann Davidson
Karolynn Flynn
Gerlind Jenkner
Carolyn Kempkes
Diane McCann
Helen Nissani
Mary Ann Rossing
Kassia Sing
Veronica Todd
Barb Weingart

We meet on the third Tuesday of every month.  We welcome your ideas, participation, and consideration. If you’re interested in learning more about our work or joining our committee, please e-mail Lara Turney.
