Part of Our Tribe? UUs and the Military
Sunday, February 12
Raz Mason, guest presenter with Nancy Phillip, Worship Associate
This service follows up nicely on our topic from last Veteran’s Day. Raz Mason is a candidate for UU ministry, with 2,400 hours of training as a professional interfaith chaplain at VA hospitals in Portland and Seattle. While at Harvard Divinity School, she led a national conference on the relationship between Ivy League schools and the military. Currently she is developing a resilience-building curriculum for military personnel and people in high-stress environments (www.warriorwheel.org).
UUs have a dignified history of embracing diversity. And we also have a long history of working for peace. How can and ought we reconcile those two values in relating to US military personnel? This sermon will highlight possible approaches in keeping with key UU principles.
In addition, there will be a trombone solo by Eric Powell, a student of Bud Parker who played in the Trombone Choir that performed at Cedars a year ago.
