At this event we will remember transgender people who were killed this year by violence. We also pause to bring to our thoughts those whose lives were lost to suicide due to society’s rejection of who they really were. Please join me at this event to support the trans community and their families.
For the ninth year, Transgender Day of Remembrance is being hosted by the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art in partnership with Bainbridge Pride, Rainbow Crew NW, Queer Elders Family Group, Transfriending, and the Bainbridge Island-North Kitsap Interfaith Council, of which Cedars is a member. At the Interfaith meeting this past week, an organizer of the Transgender Day of Remembrance made a clear request to faith communities for us to speak out against judgment, persecution and violence toward trans people. Let us answer the call.
On this Transgender Day of Remembrance, we remember those who have been murdered for being who they are, those who face violence on a daily basis, those who have lost loved ones, and those who worry for loved ones.
May we come to a time when we cease to shame children around gender roles and expression, where we allow for freedom and exploration of identity and expression, and to a world that operates from love – especially when things are difficult and confusing.
May all of us who live with the threat of violence find support, strength, community, hope and safety. By the Reverend Sunshine Jeremiah Wolfe, trans UU
