For the philosophers of ancient Greece and Rome, philosophy was a way of life, the art of living well. For many years I have been a casual reader of the literature of the Stoics, the most widely popular of these philosophies.


Three Stoic principles have greatly helped me to endure the last three years of worry and doubt. These are, “the view from above,” “the present only is our happiness,” and “live in accordance with nature.” What can these mean for us?
