Virtual Meeting
(6:45 p.m. start-up to accommodate signing in)
The Cedars Movie Group meets monthly for social evenings and discussion of a selected movie that participants have viewed previously. This month they will meet virtually on Zoom to discuss the 2018 Iranian film, 3 Faces–by Iranian filmmaker, Jafar Panahi, who plays himself in the film. A humanist in a theocracy, Panahi has long explored social and political issues: poverty, women’s rights, authoritarianism. Yet without the tiresome art-house wagging fingers and grandstanding.
In the film, actress Behnaz Jafari is distraught when she comes across a young girl’s video plea for help after her family prevents her from taking up her studies at the Tehran drama conservatory. Behnaz turns to filmmaker, Jafar Panahi, to help with the young girl’s troubles. They travel by car to the rural northwest of Iran, where they have amusing encounters with the charming and generous folk of the girl’s mountain village. But Behnaz and Jafar also discover that old traditions die hard.
The film is available to rent on Amazon Prime and on I tunes.
The discussion will be hosted by Penny Brewer, using Zoom. For the link and password, e-mail Dean and Pat Sampson for information, and join the discussion!
